Anthology of Athens
This rich anthology has inspired the philosophy behind our hotel’s ambient aesthetics and shaped a vision of hospitality centred on the well-living and inner harmony of each guest.
‘Anthology of Athens’ draws from the Greek word ‘Anthologia’ (from anthos: flower, -logia: collection), meaning a collection of flowers. A term both delicate and dignified, woven into the fabric of international poetry, art, culture, and architecture, signifying a curated collection of the finest creative works.
Our hotel lies at the heart of a rare collection of Athenian marvels—where ancient stones and timeless myths converge. The Acropolis and its museum, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, Hadrian’s Arch, the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, the Areopagus, the Pnyx, and the Panathenaic Stadium form a living anthology of history within easy reach. Modern landmarks such as the National Garden and the Zappeion unfold just steps away, completing a collection that spans centuries. Nestled in the storied heart of Plaka, with the vibrant rhythm of Koukaki at our doorstep, we offer effortless access to Syntagma and Monastiraki—where the spirit of Athens moves through every street and square.
The hotel’s name draws inspiration from the Palatine Anthology and the legacy of Emperor Hadrian. This remarkable 709-page collection—containing nearly 3,700 Greek poems and epigrams—once rested in the hallowed halls of the Vatican Library. Today, its verses are scattered like treasured relics between the University Library of Heidelberg and the National Library of France. Hadrian, a devoted philhellene and the visionary who completed the Temple of Olympian Zeus, was also a poet in his own right. Some of his verses, echoing with reverence for Greek culture, are immortalized within the Anthology that lends our hotel its name.
